You’re not a true adult until you have to have coffee in the morning.  Well, at least that’s my benchmark for adulthood.  Would love to hear yours!

Anyhow, I’ve tried all kinds of coffee from traditional brewed to those god awful pods.  I loved the convenience of the pods and was so desperate to make it work I tried the reusable pods that you add your own grounds. No, just no.  That didn’t make a cup of delicious coffee; it made a cup of regret.

Of all the methods I’ve tried, the French press was the clear winner and my go to. But as all French press users soon discover, cleaning spent grounds from the press is well…a pain.  I fell into the usual pitfalls—clogged sink drain, broken carafe from banging it on side of the trash can, stained hands and ground-filled nail beds, and leaky trash bags dirtying my floor.

Look, we all know no relationship is perfect.  There are compromises to be made and things to be worked out.  Well, my love for the French press mirrored that of Don Quixote and a quest was born to make my love more perfect.

I first sought to solve my problems the way we all do these days—with Amazon. Surprisingly Amazon did not hold the solution but what I did find from reading product reviews is there are many disillusioned French press lovers. There was some comfort is knowing I have community.

The quest continued.  I’m a pretty good problem-solver (challenge me to Sudoku, I dare you) and well versed in being outside a box. Switching to MacGyver mode, I assessed what I had in my field of vision and went to work. Hanging a strainer through a broken spatula and sitting on top a glass pitcher, the coffee angels wept and sang as the first Grounds Keeper was born.  It was a functional masterpiece but an aesthetic affront to the senses.  That thing had to get off my counter.  My work was not done.

Through a long line of trial and error, the Grounds Keeper landed on its current design. I have been using it for over three years now and it has proven to be perfect in function and form.  I am able to pour my cup then have a fully clean French press in mere seconds.

It was never my intention to market the Grounds Keeper but realizing I had been given this coin which I did not wish to bury, I believed it would be wrong of me to not share it with the world. And through doing so, bringing light, life, and love into the lives of many.
